It began with a broken coffee pot.
Kitchen House Coffee was born in St. Louis City’s Tower Grove East neighborhood, in 2014. TGE residents Paul Whitsitt and David Rodgers found themselves with a broken coffee maker, wishing for a nearby spot — somewhere they could walk to grab an early morning brew, tea, or bagel.
Their coffee house became an extension of Whitsitt and Rodger’s Kitchen House Farm, named for the mid-1800s “kitchen house” still standing on their property. Produce, eggs, and honey from the farm are incorporated into the menu, and we craft our syrups, jams, and soups with love.

Four years after opening Kitchen House Coffee, Whitsitt and Rodgers sought another urban area ripe for a neighborhood gathering spot. And so, a second Kitchen House Coffee opened its doors January 2019 in the charming Carondelet / Patch neighborhood.
The full kitchen and bakery at this location provides everything for both shops: fresh breads, bagels, pastries, treats, and meals. We’ll be roasting and adding our own coffee to our menu from select, Fair Trade coffee collectives. And the Carondelet location will feature a full, from-scratch brunch menu offered on Saturdays and Sundays, with bar service.

Kitchen House Coffee shops are country respites in the city — repurposed urban spaces focused on sustainable products. Our coffee, tea, retail items, and most cooking ingredients come from STL-area vendors and farmers. Customers can visit our egg-laying chickens that live behind the Tower Grove East shop, can tour the KHC Farm during the annual Sustainable Backyard Tour, and (starting Spring 2019) see our indoor observation bee hive at the Carondelet shop!
